There will be a quizzing session on Friday the 1st of August which will (hopefully) be of a big advantage to Exun quizzers and non quizzers alike. It’ll be conducted by Dhruv and me. Hope to see you there!

Date: Monday, 4th August [as G@teway’s on Friday]
Venue: Just meet us at Web Resource Centre and we’ll see
Timings: 1.30-3.30

Also, we’ll be conducting a quiz next week. We’ll confirm it on Monday itself.

Randy Pausch: Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams

Randy Pausch was a Carnegie Mellon University professor who suffered from pancreatic cancer. He died yesterday (25th July).

He gave a famous lecture on what he would like to tell the generation of today if he was to give a last lecture (ironically- as he suffered from a terminal disease). This “Last Lecture” was a series of lectures by many notable people which also included Randy Pausch.

Before speaking, Pausch received a long standing ovation from a large crowd of over 400 colleagues and students. When he motioned them to sit down, saying, “Make me earn it,” some in the audience shouted back, “You did!”

Windows Live Skydrive is a Free Online Storage facility offered by Microsoft at www.skydrive.live.com. The service currently offers 5GB of free storage, with a maximum upload file size of 50MB. Skydrive allows users to upload their files on the Internet and then access them from a web browser (Internet Explorer), It uses Computing Cloud storage model – a model of networked data storage where data is stored on multiple virtual servers, generally hosted by third parties) The Skydrive service utilizes Hotmail / Windows Live ID to limit access to the files the user has uploaded, allowing them to keep the files private, share with contacts, or make the files public. Publicly-shared files do not require a Windows Live ID to access.Optionally, an ActiveX tool can be installed to allow drag-and-drop uploading from Windows Explorer. Up to five files can be uploaded each time if that ActiveX tool has not been installed.

Before all the geeky folk of New Delhi schools (batch of 2008) set off to join their respective colleges (or prepare to drop a year), how about having a meeting of quizzers and computer club members of all schools across Delhi at some place! No competitions this time. 🙂 ‘Juniors’ (those who aren’t from Delhi Geeks Batch of 2008) and ‘alumni’ Delhi Geeks (who’re already studying in college are welcome too).
Right now, there’s a venue issue – we have none – so this is being kept an informal meet with no particular agenda. Basically going to be a ‘working lunch’ sort of meeting at some restaurant, at Connaught Place. PVR Plaza is simply going to be the meeting point, because CP is a big place and this is a good landmark everyone can get to. The actual restaurant (not at the end of the Universe) we end up going to would be dictated by the number of people turning up and the vacancies, but going by the current list I’d say that the Nirula’s, Outer Circle CP might be a place which will be able to accomodate an expected turnout of 20-25 people – other places, I don’t think they’ll be able to accomodate that many. Still, any suggestions are welcome. Oh, and since nobody is sponsoring this, everyone chips in to the bill.
