Exun 2008 – Techvenza
iPhone 3G
It was coming and everybody knew that. It was speculated that it would be announced during Steve Job’s keynote during WWDC 2008, and 0000 Hours (Indian time) it was.
- There arent any visual changes with the iPhone save for the new glossy back (8GB or 16GB) and glossy white (16GB) color scheme.
- Its a tad thicker at the center while it gets thinner at the edges.
- Improved battery life
- GPS
- No mention has been made of MMS, video recording or built-in iChat.
- On the chatting front, developers will be able to ping a centralized push server with their apps, to keep down battery usage and app overload on phones.
- The Mobile me <
Millennium edition. Hey thats copied!> service has been launched which will be a replacement for .mac - iPhone 2.0 Firmware with a plethora of applications (DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS)
- Prices have gone insane. $199 For the 8GB version and $299 for the 16GB version. Totally sad. While this may help Apple to capture a significant part of the market share, that exclusivity of being an iPhone owner has just gone.
- Just bought an iPhone? Listen up: “Customers who purchased a 2.5G iPhone on or after May 27 and want to swap it out for a new iPhone will be able to do so without incurring an additional handset charge for the new device. They will of course need to turn in their 2.5G iPhone.”

Download Day 2008
Mozilla is really planning to launch Firefox 3 in a big way! Download Day 2008 is a bid to break the Guiness World Record for the maximum number of software downloads in 24 hours. The release date for Firefox 3 has not been announced yet, but that hasn’t deterred more than 600,000(and growing) people from making their pledges to download Firefox 3 on Download Day(the day of the release). Visit http://www.spreadfirefox.com/en-US/worldrecord for details and to make your pledge.
Firefox 3 RC1 Released
Firefox 3 Release Candidate 1 has been released. This basically means that they’ve locked all the features and only the bug fixes are left.
For those of you who haven’t tried out any of the betas, Firefox 3 has some new features, notably the improvements to the bookmarking system and the address bar. It’s also (supposedly) a lot more stable and fast.
As far as memory consumption issues are concerned, I haven’t really noticed any improvements – it still consumes over 200 megs, which was pretty much what Fx 2 was doing with the same number of tabs (50+).
I also don’t think much of the new interface. While Fx 2 was rather plain and old-looking, at least it was neat. Fx 3’s UI seems to be a mix of new and ancient looking icons. While the new address bar has some nice features, the styling doesn’t seem to promote much usability. The download manager, incidentally, isn’t styled at all (weird).
Other issues include virtually none of my extensions working with this build. Although that isn’t unexpected (it’s not the final version, after all) I remember there weren’t so many issues when Fx 2 RC1 came out. I also have a quirky problem with bookmarking. When I bookmark all open tabs, it randomly misses out a few.
You can check out the Firefox 3 Release Candidate Release Notes here. In case you just want to try out Firefox 3 without replacing your current version, try Firefox 3 RC1 Portable.

Spyware and viruses
Spyware and viruses are both forms of unwanted or malicious software, sometimes called “malware.” You need to protect yourself from both.
What’s the difference?
Spyware (sometimes called adware) collects information about you without appropriate notice and consent.
A computer virus spreads software, usually malicious in nature, from computer to computer.
Spyware can get installed on your computer in a number of ways. One way is through a virus . Another way is for it to be secretly downloaded and installed with other software you’ve chosen to install.
In short, Spyware is a specific type of unwanted software that secretly collects your information.
A virus is a specific way software can be secretly distributed, often by e-mail or instant messaging.
Both Spyware and viruses can cause damage to your computer or cause you to lose important data.
