Windows 8: Is It Worth The Upgrade?
Windows 8 has been at the forefront of discussion for the weeks leading up to its launch on Friday. The company says that Windows 8 is the future – a world where traditional desktop computing and touch computing can live in harmony. A future where all your content is at your fingertips at all times. So is the future worth it?
Windows 8 is drastically different from anything else on the market at this time. The usually conservative Microsoft is taking a big bet on the general consumer this time around instead of catering to its usual enterprise crowd. It’s that bet on the consumer that may hurt its enterprise adoption.
The most obvious change is the new start menu. Upon booting up, Windows 8 now presents you with a screen of multi-colored blocks called “Live Tiles” that feature all of your content front and center. All of your music, videos, pictures, games and more are made readily available for your consumption.
The same goes for apps – a major driving force for Windows 8. Microsoft wants to emulate the success of Apple’s App Store with its own Windows Store. It’s a carefully curated marketplace of apps built specifically for Windows 8. A number of companies, including Google, Skype and Netflix, have already produced apps for Windows 8. Unfortunately, there’s still not enough apps in the marketplace to have it replace the traditional desktop operating system.

Event Rules…
- The event shall be held over 2 days, from 00:00:00 on 6th November 2012 to 23:59:59 on 7th November 2012, Indian Standard Time (IST). (has been extended by 12:00 more hours, so it will finish at 12:00 noon (IST) on 08th November, 2012)
- Participation is open to everyone. Each participant represents himself/herself only.
- The event entails an Online Cryptic Treasure Hunt in which participants must make their way through a series of cryptic levels.
- The participants’ aim is to crack the levels as quickly as they can so as to place themselves at the top of the leaderboard.
- At each level, the participants will encounter a number of clues which shall all, together, point to one answer. Each level has one and only one correct answer.
- Additional clues may be released if and when deemed necessary by the organizers.
- Answers will always be lower-case, alphanumeric and will contain no spaces, unless stated otherwise. e.g. if the answer to Level 0 is “Hello World!”, input “helloworld”.
- Don’t ignore any of the clues. If they weren’t important, they wouldn’t be there.
- Participants may use any and all resources they might possess, including but not limited to, the Internet.
- Beware of the spelling you enter, we cannot auto correct your spellings.
- Sharing of answers with other participants in any form is banned. The organisers reserve the right to disqualify or refuse participation to any participant without prior notice.

IT@CuttingEdge 2012
The second edition of the annual Inter-DPS IT Festival, IT@Cutting Edge was held on Saturday 4th August 2012, at Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram. The event saw massive participation and was hailed as a resounding success. DeCryptonite, an online cryptic hunt, was held over two days and had 2182 participants from 47 DPS Schools. The onsite event garnered a participation of more than 150 students across 25 schools under the aegis of the DPS Society. Along with DeCryptonite, there was another competitive event, Inst@nt dZine which tested the website and graphic designing skills of participants. Several workshops were also held for educating the students on IT skills, including Game Programming Logic, which was conducted by an outstanding Exun Alumni – Rishabh Marya; Web Designing session taken by multifaceted ex-Exun geek Bhuwan Khattar; Robotics session was taken by the robotics teacher Ajitkumar K.G. with his team of students from robotic club and Graphics & Animation session was taken by creative Exun members – Sibesh and Trijeet. A Mock Parliament Session was also held which helped students express, share and discuss their views on “Impact of INTERNET on modern form of LEARNING”. The mock parliament session was conducted by ex-Exun presidents Kush Agrawal (batch of 2011), Aishwarya Kane (batch of 2012) and Dhruv Kumar (batch of 2007). The workshops were enriching experience for all the participants as the information and examples shared in them were interesting, simple and completely in different format from any other resources available elsewhere. At the closing ceremony, Dr. D.R. Saini, Principal, D.P.S. R.K.Puram spoke about importance of IT in the modern life and how it makes decision making transparent and impartial. He quoted the example of sports in Olympics, where all the decisions are taken with the help of technology tools, which can not be challenged, and there is no room for wrong judgement. He praised the efforts of participants and organisers for making this event a grand success. Mrs. Renu Mittal, Director, D.P.S. Society, who was gracing the occasion thanked the principal, the computer department and the computer club “ExunClan” of DPS RK Puram for hosting the DPS Society event wonderfully and congratulated everyone. She also emphasised upon the usage of technology in learning of various languages and asked all the students to share their views on participating in IT events, which inculcate linguistic skills. At the end of the event, certificates and awards were given to the participants of various schools. All in all, it was a memorable Saturday, where learning and fun merged together seamlessly and left everyone wanting for more.
D.P.S R.K.Puram 40 Years Journey
One of the most prestigious schools in India and the home of the ExunClan, Delhi Public School, R.K.Puram, celebrated 40 years of ‘Excellence in Education’ (1972-2012) on Wednesday, 18th April, 2012.
Her Excellency, Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil, Hon’ble President of India was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
The celebrations saw a series of cultural performances including Orchestral and Dance Performances by Students of D.P.S.R.K.Puram as well as junior students of D.P.S.Vasant Vihar and D.P.S.
