Class of 2005: Memories

To elicit some tears of joy and separation, an electronic album of the entire school with around 500+ photos is under construction for the graduating class of 2005. We require students with professional photography skills for the purpose possessing innovative ideas vis-a-vis the given context on the team. Post you ideas as comments and you might just be the one we are looking for!

Microsoft’s Strategy: Make a ‘hypothetical’ person…

Mukesh sir gave me an opportunity to interact with the Program Manager for Windows in Microsoft, India, Mr. Pradeep Parappil. It was interesting to talk to him and to get to know of how they create a ‘hypothetical’ person their client and then cater to his needs to create a universally accepted OS.

As we know, application softwares are designed for a particular person or organization. That is not the case with an OS. An OS needs to be more widely accepted among a larger base of customers which might have little or nothing in common vis-à-vis the solutions they require.

So, Microsoft surveys people all over the world for their lifestyle patterns and the solutions they expect from Microsoft to make them realize their potential. Keeping the slogan of the company in mind, they survey different people which includes students, professionals, corporate-giants, home-users etc.

Integrating the differentiated data that they collect, they make a ‘hypothetical’ person that has all the major requirements and expectations of an OS and ‘see’ that person as their client, thereby developing software that would be a universally accepted solution for requirements of all.

Mr. Pradeep, who interviewed me, is in the team developing the OS after MS Windows Longhorn, presently codenamed as Longhorn+1.

My deepest thanks to Mukesh Sir for giving me a chance to interact with Mr. Pradeep and, although in a small way, for having a contribution from my side for the development of Longhorn+1 to be released in a few years’ time.

Codewars 2004 Results

We’ve bagged the Runners-up though we deserved the overall first place. We lost it because of the Tecathlon which had 420 points, so if any team won the Tecathlon, they would win Codewars irrespective of how many events any other team has won.

Now the individual results

1. Dhruv and Gursartaj

3. Manas and Abhishek

Senior Quiz

There was a tie-breaker between both RKP teams for third place.

Congragulations to him as this was an open event. Well done, Abhijit!

So we performed very well, and we lost only because of Tecathlon which was a team event. But then, it is “We, not I”.

Any idea how this has happened…?

This Mr. X joins one of the yahoo groups (for which he got an invitation). He doesn’t know what are the e-mail ids of the other 49 members of the group (coz he’s new to the group). The next day, the 49 other members of the group complain, “we all received an e-mail from your yahoo id Mr. X, saying ‘…Love You…’, which contained a disaster virus.”

To that Mr. X replied, “I just became a member of that group and didn’t even go on to see what the group looked like etc., and then I went offline.”

What might have been the reason for this or in other words how is this possible? (anyone)
