It was coming and everybody knew that. It was speculated that it would be announced during Steve Job’s keynote during WWDC 2008, and 0000 Hours (Indian time) it was.
- There arent any visual changes with the iPhone save for the new glossy back (8GB or 16GB) and glossy white (16GB) color scheme.
- Its a tad thicker at the center while it gets thinner at the edges.
- Improved battery life
- GPS
- No mention has been made of MMS, video recording or built-in iChat.
- On the chatting front, developers will be able to ping a centralized push server with their apps, to keep down battery usage and app overload on phones.
- The Mobile me <
Millennium edition. Hey thats copied!> service has been launched which will be a replacement for .mac - iPhone 2.0 Firmware with a plethora of applications (DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS)
- Prices have gone insane. $199 For the 8GB version and $299 for the 16GB version. Totally sad. While this may help Apple to capture a significant part of the market share, that exclusivity of being an iPhone owner has just gone.
- Just bought an iPhone? Listen up: “Customers who purchased a 2.5G iPhone on or after May 27 and want to swap it out for a new iPhone will be able to do so without incurring an additional handset charge for the new device. They will of course need to turn in their 2.5G iPhone.”
More information can be found here
I think the price drop is actually a good thing. Do you know how many iPhones have been sold since its launch? I wouldn’t exactly call that exclusive, anyway.
6 million 2.5G iPhone owners.
Believe the new one is coming to india with Airtel “sometime” this year.
Btw coming back to web browser discussion from before, WWDC also saw the release of a preview of safari 4.0 ( current : 3.1) which gets a 100/100 on acid 3 as of now.
do i expect a parody from you aditya?
No really, jokes and fanboyism apart, the fact I want to stress on is that if you want a mobile and you intend to buy an iPhone it certainly wont be “Think Different”
Do you know the drawbacks?
1. It does not have message forward
2. Bluetooth is very weak
3. There is no possibility of Video Recording
agreed the bluetooth on the iphone is weak… atleast on the current gen i have. Not weak in sense of signal strength but usage wise, the iphone makes almost no use of its bluetooth chipset at all.
The no video feature still baffles me, cause its just a simple software upgrade… im still waiting for that one.
But the best part about the phone is that apple can keep pushing infintely many new features since there are no limitations on the UI at all.
yep, by paying $9.99 per update/application. thumbs up for easy accessibility. also, as i hear both vodafone and airtel will be offering the service in india, i’m sure they’ll charge a lot as the monthly rental (the min. monthly charge in the US is $60). furthermore, the model’s price will also not be $200 here. pity ๐
At the end of the day – Basic Purpose of any mobile phone is to make/receive calls OR SMS. Paying so much just to make a company richer makes no sense.
thats quite true.
as long as a phone with its provider doesnt deliver on the communication front, its all pointless.
Let’s see what vodafone and Airtel have in store(no pun intended) for us
i hope they dont make it out to be a premium service like theyve done with blackberry
